The annual meeting of the UN General Assembly in September is to focus on global warming, the United Nations has announced. The theme of the week-long talks is to be "Responding to climate change". A high-level meeting on the topic is to be held September 24, followed by the 62nd session of the General Assembly September 25-October 3. For the past two years, a theme has been chosen for the General Assembly meeting though participants are able to speak about any topic they choose during their time at the podium. In 2006 the theme was: "For a stronger and more effective United Nations," while in 2005 it was: "Implementing a global partnership for development." The theme is chosen by the General Assembly president in agreement with UN member states.
