Iran warns against interference in nuclear inspections | Printable version |
12/09/2007 Iran warned Wednesday that political interference would jeopardize its new round of cooperation with international nuclear inspectors. "Let the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) do its job," Iranian ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh told reporters after an IAEA board of governors meeting had reviewed the Iranian nuclear file. "Any interference or politically motivated interference will definitely jeopardize the new constructive trend," of an agreed timetable for answering IAEA questions, Soltanieh said. The United States leads Western nations in charging that Iran is using this timetable, and the time that fulfilling it will take, to avoid new UN sanctions against it for refusing to halt uranium enrichment. The UN Security Council has already imposed two rounds of sanctions on Iran. Soltanieh made clear that he wants the Iranian issue handled at the Vienna-based IAEA. "Iran highly expects certain states to reciprocally support Iran's initiative in full and timely manner, and return to the negotiating table for the peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue through dialogue and technical elaboration within the framework of the IAEA," Soltanieh said in comments to the agency's 35-nation board | | Posted By: SH - news@wilayahnetwork.com | | Back |
